Leda and her Swan
I believe this was my first painting I sold in the exhibition of Lincolnshire Artists at the Usher Gallery. I was only an Associate Member then and was very pleased with this encouraging event.
The title is, like many I choose, selected to fit the painting rather than the reverse. The models arm has been rather awkwardly foreshortened and suggested the appearance of a swans head and neck. The myth of Leda and the Swan is a motif from Greek mythology, in which Zeus came to Leda in the form of a swan and has enabled artists to paint fine women and fine swans throughout the centuries
