Artist Notes

Girl with a Yellow Robe

I have always thought that it is relatively easy to draw and paint the human figure. What is almost impossible is to create  what I call, for want of a better term, a ‘picture’. Introducing elements of picture making and splitting the basic rectangle in interesting ways by cutting parts of the figure off with the frame and introducing objects or accessories to complement the basic study help considerably in this respect.

Frequently a fan heater helps both the model and the artist in these studies from life . Groups working together mean that a pose is a compromise from the less favoured positions.
